DsKiosk
version française english version

Setup

First of all, download DsKiosk, and put the ZIP file contents at some place of your SD card. If needed, patch dskiosk.nds (or dskiosk-r4.nds) with an appropriate DLDI driver. You're done, execute dskiosk.nds (or dskiosk-r4.nds if you own a R4 or M3, or if dskiosk.nds doesn't work on your linker)

Let's start by registering some of your favorite homebrews into DsKiosk's list. The settings screen will come up if it's the first time you run DsKiosk. Later, you will need to press the Start button of the DS to get back there. You can quit the settings screen with the same button.

Settings

When started for the first time, English is the default language. To switch to another language, go to the Options tab, and tap the Language button.

Slots

It's the main tab where you'll manage your registered homebrews.

Tap the Add button to add a new program to the list. A new panel will show up, allowing you to select an NDS file, its picture (PNG 16bits, 64x48), and also the target work space (the current work space will be selected by default).

DsKiosk can automagically detect if a picture is available for the NDS you just chose, if it matches any of these conditions :

  • the picture is in the same directory and has the same name as the application (NDS file) you want to register, but with the PNG extension (for example, if your homebrew's file name is myHomebrew.nds, the picture's file name should be myHomebrew.png)
  • the picture's file name is _title.png (and of course, there can be only one file of this kind in each directory)

Note to homebrew developers :don't forget to put such a picture into the ZIP or RAR files of your creations That will make its registration into DsKiosk way easier, and your fans will thank you for that (and me too!).

If you don't provide any picture, DsKiosk will try to display the default homebrew icon : but of course it will be less eye-appealing (32x32, 16 colors).

Once you validate your selection, this new entry will be added at the end of your list. You can change its position anytime by selecting it (tap it), and by using the Up and Down buttons.

The Modifiy button is used to modify an entry. You can change the path of the NDS, its picture, or even switch it to another work space.

The Remove button removes an entry from the list. Be aware that nor the picture, nor the NDS file will be deleted from your SD card. You'll still have to do the cleaning yourself.

Options

DsKiosk can speak english and french. Tap the Language button to switch between the different languages available.

You can choose between the default background and the one you defined yourself with the Background button.

You can select any picture you want (PNG 256x384) by tapping the button showing up on the right of the Background button (if 'Default' is shown, just press the Background button first).

Work spaces

In this panel, you can see every available work space. You can modify the name of the corresponding space by touching it. Press the ] buttons to switch places between two spaces.
